Illustration Friday: Wheel

Planets in my Wheel House

Did I ever tell you that I was once a Mongolian princess?  No?

When I was in college, I met a woman in one of my psychology seminars.  She was older than the rest of the students, perhaps well into her 40s.  She worked at the graduate library, spoke with a Russian accent, and she became my friend.  She taught me a little about Tibetan Buddhism and took me to see the Dalai Lama twice -- first when he came to our campus and again when he came out to Los Angeles. Whenever there was a bad snow or ice storm and she could not drive home, she would stay with me in my little apartment off campus.  It was during one of these sleepovers that she insisted on giving me a full astrological reading.  Unfortunately, I remember nothing.  Oh, but she did tell me about my past lives.  That, I remember.  She said that all my lives have been female, and in one former life I was a Mongolian princess.

Why is it that whenever people talk about their past lives, they were always someone famous?

Anyway, if you are wondering why this drawing is unfinished, it's because I lost interest.  I became obsessed with another kind of wheel instead...a chocolate wheel.  :)   I found a recipe for homemade Ding Dogs and had to give it a try.  Yummmmmmmy!

It has been a very interesting day.  I woke up to the loud drone of four helicopters hovering in the sky.  A massive manhunt for a cop killer is underway in Southern California.  Then I was serenaded by this incredibly suave and handsome individual, singing one of my favorite standards of all time.  And for the first time in my life, someone said to me, "Have fun with your ding dong!"

I have always wondered that about people's 'past lives', too. It's never "I worked as a maid at Motel 6" or "I was a street urchin". Always Edgar Allan Poe or Cleopatra. Not that you weren't a Mongolian princess. :) I'm sorry to hear about the helicopters...what a world.
The ding dongs and the drawing are scrumptious! xox

Bella, your imagination always astounds me! I love the illustration, even if it is unfinished! I heard about the cop killer on the news. That is quite scary and so tragic! It's even scarier now knowing he was so close to you! I hope you can stay safe! Perhaps you can station one of your dragons at the door?

thank you for your kind comment on my Christmas Monkey poem. I finally got around to checking my Poet Tree blog and I just responded the comments. January has been a busy month with family here until the 8th, then Gus temporarily lost his vision all while trying to do a Big January which is where I try to count as many bird species in the month as possible! Then, to top it all off I got the flu! LOL! I'm back up to snuff now though and making the rounds. Thanks for the smile today!

Okay, I think I will go juggle some planets now. Have a nice evening Miss Mongolian Princess!

It's adorable! It doesn't look unfinished to me! Though I do know all about losing interest.

Moon over Minneapolis made me spit my tea through my nose. I laughed uncontrollably for about 10 minutes before I finally got a hold of myself...

and OF COURSE you were a Mongolian princess! I think I was some gal totally on the lam in a past life. I have too many weird traits for that not to be the explanation.

BELLA! Between YOU and your "ding-dongs" and Ces and her "nu..." er, ummm, ACORNS, I wonder if my Mommie will allow me to keep visiting you Peeps.

Finally I see how the house moves, "Yo-O-Heave...HO!" I like your house a lot, hope rabbit will hop aboard for the ride.

While enjoying SO much of Buddha, always I have trouble with those former "lives" of mine. What good are they If I do not remember? Or even if I DO? --grin!

A N D girl, your imagination knows no boundary. Wonder what were your "dream-thoughts" in early life? How far away did they take you into the land of Oz? My guess is, that you were like the children in Lake Woebegone, MN, "ALL ABOVE AVERAGE!"
Peace
Tsup

Your drawing is a delight, as-is! That is certainly one suave and gifted individual who sang to you today--a serenade fit for a princess. And the last line of your post is priceless.

Okay so many things about this post. First of all, the drawing project is lovely. I love her hair! I also love her clean house. I just hope there is never a tornado or rain. Hehehehe. I see the felted rabbits made their way into the drawing. I see one of them. illustration What a neat illustration dearest Bella, you may want to finish it someday. The green trees will provide a very nice background.

The dingdongs look so yummy! I wish I am having one right now with my coffee. Sssshhh! Don't tell anyone - I am listening to a telephone conference right now. I am WFH :)

I totally see the princess. I could have guessed that myself based on your gait and demeanor and everything about you. You were a princess as you are now! I don't understand why you were always a woman though. Is there another way? Did she say that life cycles undergo gender changes? Does it even cross species? I wonder if I was once a knife thrower or someone who wielded a leather whip.

I am so very thankful that you are safe! What a scary day. I am so glad you are not driving a blue truck or drove near one. Be safe.

TSUP! TSUP!!!

Wow a Mongolian princess! That's very cool.and homemade Ding Dongs... yum, that sounds better than the sauteed Oreo crumb. My sister was talking about the man hunt last night. I hope that they caught him. I never watch the news. I guess I live under a rock ;) oh, and I love the wheel house, you should finish it!

I didn't know you lived in Southern Cal, Bella. We're kinda neighbors.

Hey, I got my theories on this cop killer. Kind of a DB Cooper thing maybe. He planned this for months. Set his truck on fire so everyone would know where to find him, then hoofed it to a destination where an accomplice picked him up somehow. Second scenario is he figured out a way to conceal himself before ending it all. Plan being that they would never find him and every cop in Southern Cal would be forever looking over his shoulder. Hope I'm wrong though, and they find the nut case.

On the other hand, I like your new piece because I can imagine it moving, like those toys with the rolling ring that sits on the moving wheels. Appeals to my kinetic, carnival-ride side, I imagine.

Oh yeah, those Ding Dogs are makin' my mouth water. Healthier ingredients than the more common Ding 'Dongs', I'm sure. Give me a good movie to watch and I could really destroy a plate full, while my eyes roll back in my head.

Oh Bella, I love your drawing, I was so drawn into the fun wheel and then as I kept reading and then I saw it, the obsession of my childhood the "ding dong"!

I've been explaining this obsession to my husband now for 20 years and he still can't get it! The "ding dong", the big descent into my chocolate crack addiction!!!!

I was good, until I saw the pixs, now I have a call into my sponsor...I am not going out into a snow storm warning...in search of "ding dongs"

Bella, you're a "ding dong" dealer...

LOL! Seriously, this is not going to end well...:) :)

Well, that was a fascinating post, Bella! From Ding Dongs to that murderer on the loose (please tell me why he has groupies and followers? He's a killer for Pete's sake.) to the Dalai Lama (really? I'm so impressed!) to your drawing, which is adorable. Looks finished to me.
I would love to have someone tell me who I was in a former life. Or maybe not. :(
