Illustration Friday: Forward

Once upon a time,
there were three little sisters,

Elsie

Lacie

 and Tillie,

and they lived at the bottom of a treacle well,
making treacle pies and treacle cakes
and all sorts of treacle delights.

Because what else do you do with so much treacle.

Now, everyone knows that Elsie and Lacie and Tillie
loved to draw things that start with the letter M:
like monsters,
and maggots,
and meerkats.

But what they don't know is
that every afternoon,
they would draw mustaches on their faces
 and sneak topside
with their basket full of treacle goodies
and leave it at the doorstep of a random house
with a note that read:

Got Milk?

*Inspired by the Dormouse's story from Alice in Wonderland.

I can't believe I'm your first commenter... yay, yahoo, yippee!
I love the three little sisters, so busy at work, so cute! I think Elsie's got the best job by far though, I hope they take turns.Yum! Tillie looks a little stressed with the workload. :)
I love the look of the stones and the way the light from above balances with the semi-circle of the treacle below. It's cool too how their work stations look like a tiered dessert plate. So sweet!
Now I'm having my first ever yen for treacle cake!
Do they ship?
(By the time I finished, Ces beat me to it!)
Oh well! (no pun intended)

So cute, whimsical and beautifully detailed! I'd love to see a continuation of this story, like an illustration of the mustached sisters sneaking around with their treats.

These are SO CUTE! I'm still here..ogling--is that a word?

Always wondered what is a 'meerkat' --grin! Sounds like an African Hamster.

I'm eating a slice--HA! I mean, "HALF OF" a chocolate ice-cream-cake. Gotta keep Elsie company!

I'll stop spamming you now.....

Oops! Sorry Heidi.

I love how Tillie stands, just like a ballerina!

C.P.Adorio said...

I want to have something like that. Put a cake on the top layer and fill the middle and bottom layers with chocolates, cookies and strawberries. You should design dish patterns.

Okay, I really love this illustration.

Now, where else could they possibly live? How clever you are Bella - so creative and beautifully illustrated!

Heh, I see there are only 54 comments. I thought I was late. In fact I was feeling like a white rabbit about to fall in a hole.

Well, it's such a pleasure to read both the visual story and the verbal one. And it maid my salivary glands work ----- :) Amazing how you and Shirley stir up the warm fuzzies in me with your art. It's like a mother's heart beat - if you get my meaning. Memories of someone else's childhood that I can pretend were my own... Maybe it should be the new Jungian archetype ? Hero Witch Mother Trickster and SECM (someone elses' childhood memories).

So what was it like being the quality control girl? :)

Heh, I just loved that part!

see you

sorry to be late

Dear Bella,

How adorable and ever so sweet your three little sisters are.
Your darling illustration put a smile on my face.
Love the story too and would like to have some treacle goodies, left at my house.

BELLA!!!!!
I'm eating treacle goodies (Butterscotch instead of molasses!) while commenting. Been too much existing on them lately, so Monday will begin again my periodic (idiotic?--grin!) FAST...this time for about 5 weeks...maybe I can then bend over to tie my shoes.

So please tell that chick on top floor in quality control, that I'll join her again--to lick the pot--in the middle of Lent...she'll probably want to take a break by then, to retrofit her wardrobe......

HAHAHA! It's been so long, I had forgotten--my shoes don't have tie strings, they are Velcro strapped.

Amanda Dilworth said...

fantastic illustration and story Bella, i think i want to live in the treacle well and join Elsie in the quality control department :)

Steve E said...

Plz tell Amanda, it is getting crowded here at the 'top'.--grin!

The more I "drink in" "FORWARD", the more I'm convinced Bella: YOU ARE A GENIUS!

Drawings such as this COULD bring about World Peace--I mean, WHO could fight angrily over our differences as they observe these three working together in harmony.

And that nurse on 2nd floor--was she kidnapped from her oak tree? (It IS Ces, right?).......

WHOOOPEEEEE!

If I could bottle the cuteness and charm you exude in art I am confident it would be the sweetest nectar in the world.

I love this.

Horror movies have made wells dank and scary (not that they didn't have that going for them already), but you have made them cute!

aimee said...

dang, bella, these little ladies just keep getting cuter and happier by the drawing. i want to go live in bella world.

FUN- TASTIC.
I love that picture, like I love all your work.

Bella, I just enjoy SO much returning here to re-read and drink it all in one more time.

Also checking out to see if you've posted yet, or still in hibernation vacation...Whatever, I hope and pray that you are OK, and staying in joyful mode!

PEACE!
