Illustration Friday: Stripes

Round and round the narwhal tusk
Stripes of green in shades of dusk
Take my hand, come round with me
Let your heart and joy swim free

Mr. (albino) Narwhal, who was inspired by my sweet sisterfriend Ces's drawing of a sweatered narwhal,
is sporting a mustache in support of Movember.  Grow a mo!

❈ ❈ ❈

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the amazing, fanciful, and tremendously entertaining stories conjured up by the above drawing!  I was tickled by all the stories.  You made me eat all my kettle corn!  Here are just a few highlight:

•  A roving reporter gets caught in a gust of wind that blows away her tiny interviewees as well as her earpiece

•  Magical butterflies are carrying away the seeds of spring

•  Pixies scatter to find her lost younger sisters to guide them back home

•  Her car broke down and started smoking.  Really badly.

•   She scratched her head trying to think of a solution to her brother's potential dating disaster and unleashed a great storm of dandruff

•  She is about to eat the magical seed of a wishflower, which can only grow and release its seeds during a fog

•  Lightning bugs are carrying away every drop of snowflake so that spring can finally arrive

There are many more, and I loved them all!  Thanks so much for playing with me.

xoxo

The is such a cool and unique drawing. I totally love the hat and mustache. But I think my favorite part is all the teeny swimmers. Wonderful, happy, and so cute!

That's a great collection of tales for your Scattered entry!

♥ totally in love with your drawings! It shows your big heart and that little person still living there! It probably sounds cheesy but what a hell... it is honest! good luck girl!

I am back again, so soon. The seaweed which is a source of alga or agar used in gelatin, which I will be consuming for the next several days :( looks like a giant ribbon. The cute little girls are so adorable. I want to bite their toes! Hehehehe. Everything about this is spectacular, look at the octopuses in their anatomically movement. How did you do the background? It looks so real!!! I just love your attention to detail. I love this. Of course. Tsup!

Movember narwhal, brilliant. I was all set to do it myself but when the first rolled around I woke up so tired I went and shaved without even thinking about it.

Oh Bella, I love it!! They really look like they're floating, such fluid movement. The tiny girls are so cute and the little squids. Love the hat tied under the chin! The 'stache is that extra bit of humor that is so you!

Thank-you for your words of comfort and support. :)

Yes, in honor of your Movember celebration, I decided not to shave. Do you like it? Tickle me moustache.

Hi Bella,

I love this sweet and unique illustration, how very dapper the Narwhal is sporting his very own moustache and hat.
Ces looks great wearing her moustache too.

Happy November

Love your little verse and a pink narwhal is just the ant's pants as far as I am concerned, especially a mustacheoed one. Seldom have I seen a gentleman looking so good in pink. Adore those little darlings in their air bubbles twirling around hie perfectly left screwed tusk like a maypole. I am trying to make up my mind whether I would rather be one of the darlings on ribbon duty or the fish with wings or maybe the pink narwhal . . . yes, I will be the pink narwhal, my figure is eminently suitable for the part . . . and the moustache . . .

Gosh Bella, this is really great. I don't have a wisecrack or goof-ball comeback this time because I've been neutralized. I'm in awe. You really know how to tell a story with your art. It's just poetic. -and then you go and create that beautiful underwater setting, the lighting of which is very difficult to pull off. Wow. Check and mate.

Andrew Finnie said...

Ahh Bella, trying to sneak one in eh? when I wasn't looking :)

well how much fun are these lot having A: a lot :) Lots of joy lots of dreaming in the sea, you take us back to our childhood, which is a good place to be. Bbeautiful rhyme you made but the resistence de pice is the moustache. A moostache says a lot about a narwhal. Inspector Narwhal? Adolf Narwhal? Charlie Narwhal? Sadam Narwhal? My Auntie Zelda Narwhal?

I can't wait to see a book from you. :)

My magic word is 'teders' which is of course an collective adjective describing a bunch of men whose names are all Edward...

Bella darling you are the greatest at telling and weaving beautiful illustrations and tales. This is super fantastic and wonderful. It just makes me want to run a bath and jump in and see if this is happening, but alas two whales can't fit into my tub he he he he he he! Okay I'm the cute fluffy whale. he he he he he! Oh my goodness your note about Zoe was so beautiful and touching cause I too was a crying mama. Oh my goodness I can't believe that she is 11 Bella. Tall and beautiful and smart is she. Thanks for making it even more special. It wasn't just you crying. Love you honey bunny.

I see your drawings and instantly I am there. This is refreshing and fun. Close enough to the surface to still be warm. There is memory in your art. It is fantastic and familiar at the same time. You really distill childhood into whimsy with your magical artistic alchemy.

I love this! I love narwhals in Victorian regalia.

I have a whale character named Mr. Whale whom I hope to illustrate in a graphic novel next year. He wears a top hat and smokes like a chimney!

Hello Bella! It has been so long since I have been around in the blogging world. I started a new blog, for poetry class at school. It is a place where I can put my poetry, which I love to write. This picture of yours is lovely! I LOVE the way the light rays come through the water. It is one of the magical parts of water, in my opinion. And you capture it well. Also the clever wimsy of your pictures always makes me smile!

I hope you are doing well,
Heather

Isn't it a delight to read all the comments from your creative-thinking audience, Bella? I do wish I had a less literal mind.
I always love your ocean-inspired drawings. The little helmets protecting the children...the tiny sea creatures (one carrying your signature...so adorable)and all the details and thought you put into each drawing. Giving us a smile to start the week with!

Hello! I certainly would not say no to meet him. Haha! The quote and the image of the handsome gentlemen makes me feel a bit desperate, hahah! But I am a happy single person, but I wouldn't say no to date this man ;)

I must admit that I draw first and thereafter I start looking for a quote that matches the illustration, and I've stumbled across so many great quotes, people are amazing!

Sounds like a deal!! more skirts, I actually gonna wear a dress tomorrow, the girls and I will go to the swedish premiere of breaking dawn. Can't wait! xx
