Swinging by to say hello!

Hello, hello!  I hope you had a marvelous and memorable summer.  Autumn is now upon us.  Goodness, is it really October already?

I've been slow to get back into the swing of things.  And it didn't help that pressure was on to make a splashy return (haha, thanks, Ted!).  Hopefully, this will be a decent start as I get my gears rolling again.

Over the summer, I saw an opportunity to make a customized lamp and thought, 'Hmmm, this might be fun.'  So I created two drawings of frolicking youngsters, stitched them together, and sent it in for printing.  And viola!  I received the lamp a few days ago, and I must say, I'm quite impressed with the quality of printing and the lamp itself.

This is something else I worked on last week.  One of my favorite things is a music box.  The kind that you crank the little handle, and a drum with little bumps turns while plinking tiny metal keys.  I love those.  When I was a little girl, I had a donkey plushie named Eeyore with a music box sewn in.  When he got very old and ratty I retired him for good, but not before performing a little surgery and removing that precious box.  I don't even remember now what tune it played, but I do remember the joy of finally holding the magic in my hands.  And then I promptly dismantled it to find out how it worked.   I think I broke it.

So this is for Eeyore.  Sorry, buddy.

I'll be by to say hello and catch up with you.  You have been warned.  :)

EDIT:  Oh!  I do remember the tune!  It played Happy Days are Here Again.  Ahhh, sadly, not for you, Eeyore, not for you.

Hey! Welcome back Bella! I’m sure I speak for most of us that we have missed you. I hope and pray that your summer was spectacular! Love, love, love those lampshades! Great post. Love the part about holding the “majic” in your hands. Great visual! You have been one busy woman... I got tired just reading all you’ve been up to. Well God bless and Happy Autumn!

YAYYYYY! You're back..and oh with a vengeance of awesomeness! I say you are the Karate Kid of awesomeness! I love the lamp - oh the illustration is just perfect..and it does look fantastic on the lamp itself! So exciting!! And my gosh, I just love those little music boxes..yes, why were we so mesmerized by them and then cranked them just a bit too far and ploink, they don't go anymore..I love that you brought this wonderful memory back with your gorgeous illustration! Hooray!! Bella's back!!!! xoxo

Ah, blogland was a tad too lonesome and bleak without you. You brought the sunlight back with you, errrr, okay, lamplight. Art or no art, you are just pure magic, but the art is great as always. I love music boxes. I was mesmerized looking at the gear and that tightly woven rectangular doodad it keeps hitting. Am I the only one who grew up without a stuffed animal or doll? Ugh. I am such a tomboy. I played with toy cars and guns instead.

Welcome back, honey. Now it's fun again. Tsup!

See? Even the word verification says happy land --> "hipailan". Hahahahah! I am so lame.

So happy you are back.

Welcome back Bella. I have sorely missed having you around. I have a wonderful music box that you scroll holed cards through like a player piano. A lovely instrument with tunes from Happy Birthday to the Moldau be Smetana and a little of Schibert's Trout quintett.

Your lamp is both lovely and soothing.
Hope you had a happy summer!

Oh my goodness I feel like the Jackson Five or the Pea Eye Pea's have just walked out on stage he he hehe he! Oh Bellal girl it's been super long time. I have been working and falling down apparently. I have had so much work on my desk I really haven't had the time to really blog or visit my friends. I am so happy to see your fabulous post. I am loving this wonderful lamp shade and the illustrations. Your style is such a delight for the eyes and a visual lift for the soul and spirit. You have to know that you were missed. Yes I fell down and went BA-BOOOOM! I hit the dang ground so hard I cracked my knee cap. I sprained my left wrist. My sister tease me with, " Hey at least you knew to fall on to the left he he he he!" I am healing now and resting a little to. I see that you came back on my birthday! What a great present. I know that you are making your rounds, but please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Best to you!
Love you so much.

well, hello! glad all is well and i love your lamp. i didn't even know you had a shop, but glad i do, now!

Ted Blackman said...

Okay.. I'm back.

I must say your triumphal return is everything I'd hoped for. That lamp is just the greatest thing, you have raised the bar for everyone! Already I'm thinking about lamp ideas... and that just rankles me, because I like to be first with killer ideas, now I must follow you. Boo hoo.

Seriously though, you have an impressive imagination, and that's something I respect far more than actual drafting skills (which you also have, of course). What's it like being so damn perfect??

Hey, I totally relate to you wanting to know how that music box worked, that made me laugh because I destroyed all my childhood toys because of my mechanical fascinations. Consequently I attained knowledge that your average dumb kid didn't possess, and it came to serve me well in later years. I've restored many antique clocks and battery operated toys for people as an adult. So yeah, I understand the chain of events that led to Eeyore's demise.
Yes, he's gone, but we still have 'Happy days are here again' don't we? That dumb song... stuck in our heads, playing over and over and over...

Super idea for the lamp..I love it!
I wrecked any number of things when I was a kid....at least my mother said I did. Mostly it was smearing make-up on my dolls.

I love that lamp. It is stupendous! So charming.

And the music contraption drawing is great. There is a wonderful romantic whimsy in it.
