Illustration Friday - Reverse

In hindsight, Swifty was probably not the best name for his new friend. If they went any slower, he swore they'd be going in reverse.

Have a wonderful week!

Oh cutest cankles ever!!! Adorable, yet bordering on snail abuse by withholding of food. I love Speedy's little mouth. You are The Best. P.S. Where is your ETSY? I need to shop.

heehee, go, Swifty go! Well, at least there will be plenty of time to enjoy the scenery. I'd love to be enjoying a warm, sunny day right about now. I appreciate the detail of the fine shell decorating! Maybe they can win for best shell art?

encaracolada said...

hehe, it´s my friend!!! He will win sometime.

Wonderful work! All of it!

Hihi hi, Speedy is so super cute.
Yout entrys for IF are the best.
Bella, do you illustrate books, or do you sell your illustrations or prints. I could imagine your beautiful drawings on childrens T-shirt on blankets on allmost everything.
You are a genius!
HA, i just read Deborahs comment "Where is your etsy?"
Two women, one thought!
Have a great weekend
Janine

Gros bisous

Okay Bella, these are the people I have to drive behind when I go into town.... ;-D
Swifty is darling...I'd rather be driving behind him. Because he is supposed to go slow and doesn't have a gas pedal that never gets use...
;-D
You need to make a card out of this~~seriously!

XXOO~~♥
Anne, not moving too swiftly herself....

Alice Andreini said...

Sweet. The narrative is well supported by the composition. i especially like the color link between the helmet and the treat.

Linda Hensley said...

I especially like the shell decorations :) Since people want to buy, you should sell!

Manon Doyle said...

I agree with Anne! A card would be perfect for this!! xoxo

You turn something ordinary to extraordinary. You make something simple and it comes out brilliant. Your lines and curves are perfect and your colors are beautiful. You have to publish a book, a collection of your illustrations so I can admire them without going to my office and stare at my Sisterfriend wall or logging in to my pc, laptop or any other device. I want to run my fingers across your drawings and trace or follow the lines. Your drawings are outstanding because they exude with mirth and your love for life. Oh since I have not changed my mind about your drawings since the day I first saw them, and since I just love them more and more, I may have a crush on you. I think you are a goddess.  I think, oh I know, I love you! I love you most. I love you more than Vee loves you and baby, she lurvs you! Did you hear that Ms. Vee? Oh, I love Vee too but I think I have to write that on her blog. Right!

STOP keeping your Etsy store a sceret!!!

Ces said...

Where is the link to the ETSY store? I am directing my friends to your blog and there is no link.

I just love the expressions here! Poor snail has no idea he has a tripped out shell and frustrated rider. I agree that this would make an hysterical card. Belated birthday maybe? It's genius!

How am I supposed to indulge my impulse buying spree if you don't have a cute button on your blog that I can push over and over? Hmmm? xoxo! Pam

PS My vert word is kopping as in "Pam is kopping there will be an etsy button soon." :) Or even "Pam is not kopping very well with no etsy button to push." Ok, I will leave now.

That snail has the sweetest paint job ever. Who cares how fast you can go when you look that awesome?

I love the body language of the disgruntled rider - it is so well done the emotion emanates off the page - er, screen!

Ces said...

Hahahahahah! I have never read a comment with so many "bestfriend" words! HAHAHAHAHHA! Isn't that lovely young witch adorable? I was thinking about her today and wondered how I can render her in ink. Oh yes. Lots of black! I did have good hair day today! Thank you.

Hheh I asdmit to starting giggling out line by the time I got t the phrase "not the best choice". Now I have that happy hormonal flush that men of a certain age get when confronted by a racing snail.... Let me go and have a look at the picture again, I need a dose of 'imiantil' actually... :)

Oh no I got it worng. Now I need a dose of 'cranizes' - but I think I already have those...

Andrew Finnie said...

Well you are gifted Bella. You know that little touch of the paint pots, the paint job on the side is exquisite, the whole scenario of the apple before the donkey :) But the teeth on the snail make me want to check my digits :) :)

see you !!

(lucky there were twelve like always)

Tammie said...

thank you for the chuckle dear Bella!
when I saw the snail, i said out loud "Bella! I drew a snail last week too!" but I will not post it until Sat. because of the poem that goes with it.
we are thinking snails at the same time, i can only smile at that! Happy week to you.

Ah, you know the proverb of the hare & the tortoise . . .
Love the pattern on his shell, such a wonderful touch.

Ted Blackman said...

I'd hire someone to chase that snail with a full saltshaker, that would get his slow butt in gear.
Hey, I really like that dandelion snagged on the shell, that's cool. Those kind of details can really raise the bar on the competition. Bravo.

Megan Coyle said...

you crack me up with your sense of humor - and I'm digging the snail's expression :)

Ted Blackman said...

Forgot to ask: have you heard of Heinrich Kley? 1860s-1940s. He did an amazing pen and ink of a snail race. There's at least two books out of his brilliant drawings.

That is NOT a happy snail, Bella. I daresay the situation is hopeless, much like Florida drivers. :)

The crash helmet made me laugh out loud!

(Me first? OK. First kiss: Gerald R. 11 years old, and behind the band shell. Really gross.)
