Illustration Friday - Savour

"Is that a blowhole or a mouth?"
"Hmmm, you know, I'm not sure."

Lately, my two girls have taken to sleeping with me at night. It's the three of us, plus the pooch, snuggled in a queen size bed. Inevitably, someone steals the covers or gets a knee or elbow, but it's also warm and cozy. I am savoring these nights when I can fall asleep listening to everyone breathing.

Happy December! And Happy Hanukkah!

Oh Bella, I love this illustration due to the fiddle head ferns! They are one of my favorite rites of Spring, awaiting their instant arrival.
The tenderness of your words about you and your children in the arms of slumber make me *see* that as well....
Delightful....you have brightened my cold day!

XXOO~~♥

My professional opinion: it is not a blowhole. No one would blow into that. HAHAHAHAHAHA! Oy vey!

Aaah! I need to look for a better adjective without having to use an adverb, to adequately describe this wonderful illustration. Ooops! I just used an adjective.

Ah, Tsup! Tsup! Tsup!!!

Someone called those fiddle head ferns as fiddle sticks! :)

I notice the background...

Aah wait! Your fungi series has spread throughout the blogs!!! Have you noticed?

Ces said...

Nope, can't think of anything right now. Will it give you an idea if I tell you that your illustration makes me very happy and how much I love it?

Ces said...

Aaaah! Now I know why my left foot is ticklish! Okay. Bye. Tsup! Tsup! Tsup!

Aw, I almost can't concentrate on the picture because I am thinking about all of your snuggled together (dog included). I do love your monster, and I will vote for a blow hole, just because I love happy endings! xoxox

My question: Is that an eyebrow or a Fu Manchu?

The colors in this are so macabre - love it!

yummmmm, fiddle heads, I love this, how are you Bella? My grandson has been crawling in bed with me too. It's very cozy and sweet until I get poked by an elbow or knee ;) just kidding, I love it.

Savour away while you may. Nothing after all lasts forever and is always best enjoyed in the NOW.

Adorable painting, just as well she does not fit into the blow-hole,

Love the curly fern tips, the mushrooms, the girl, the spoon and the bole, but most of all I love the lovable green whatever . . . and you of course!

Hi Bella,

Sweet darling little illustration and I would say a blow hole and maybe there would be a gentle kiss for that cute girl.
I love the fern fronds and the mushrooms.
The thought of you all snuggling up together, dog included in the bed is precious.

Sending hugs & love to you
Carolyn

Your phantasy is unbelievable.
I do admire your creativity and your warm sence of humor so much.
And this illustration is again so special and sweet. I love all the little details so much, the elefants on the bowl and your signature on the foot.
You made my day

Amalia K said...

Well, well, miss Bellllaaa... I kept thinking, a blowhole or a mouth? A pair of eyebrows or a mustache? And imagining how ticklish it must have been for the scaly monster man to have your name tattooed on his feet!

But as always, it put a huge smile on my face... though I sure hope he doesn't eat her at the end.

HUGS, oxox

Megan Coyle said...

This made me laugh :) I like your sense of humor!

And I hope YOU have a happy December as well :)

Barbara said...

Dark, Bella, dark. Hmmmm. But still, the monster must be reconsidering as the sweet girl doesn't look frightened. At any rate, sure looks like a blowhole to me...no mouth to be seen. Guess she's off the hook. :)
I do love the fiddlehead ferns!

Ces said...

That monster is nothing but sweet, smart and funny. HAHAHA!

INTAHNET!
INTAHNET!!
INTAHNET!!!

Ces said...

Tickle me!

Ces said...

You know, I was thinking of drawing next, a woman riding a giant peacock or a giant cock, you know, a rooster. Then I remember that Chagall painted a man riding a cock and I did not want to be seen as a copyist. So I think I will stick to two women racing while riding a peacock and a cock. Oh, I want to see the flagellation...

Ces said...

Oh, I did not think of them. I thought of the women, so competitive but then I realized, they were just faking it.

Your description of your sleeping arrangements made me feel all snuggly and warm. So sweet. Those are the moments to savour. Your illustration is so fun! How do you get a monster with one eye, a blowhole and holding a little girl on a spoon to look so adorable? ... and with such a cute expression too? What is your magical secret Bella? Your style just blows me away. Love the mushrooms and the elephant bowl. Great detail! I savour every visit!

Ces said...

Hellllllllloooooooo!!! I figured it out, I think. I used my Bamboo! Hahahaha!

There's something about a dog sleeping on your bed that is primaeval. Dark but beautiful illustration.

tera said...

Ha ha! Either way, I think she's too big to eat.
I love the 3D look of this. But now I want to hear the rest of the story. :)

Must be something going around with the cuddling at night, my cat, who is normally very standoff-ish, has also been cuddling. His purring puts me to sleep. Unlike hubby's snoring. But that's another story. :)

laughingwolf said...

what a creative mind combined with awesome talent, bella :)

thx, and back atcha :)

Ces said...

Are fidlleheads the same as fiddlesticks? HAHAHAH!

Ces said...

What about dopehead? Is that related? Oh dunderhead?

Oh the verif is colorati.

Are you colorating your drawing?

I am commenting in between a very important conversation with a very special person.

Ces said...

How do you wash away the smell of crabs?

Ces said...

On the hands, I mean. After eating crabs. Not because one has crabs.

mrdipef

My neighbor Mrdipef took a shower to wash away the smell of crabs.

Ces said...

Did you have crabs?

Ces said...

Hmmmnnn! I love crabs.

Ces said...

Dungeness.

My neighbor calls Dungeness crabs, Dangerous crabs.

Ces said...

Does a crabby person love crabs?

Ces said...

Yes! Octopuses can suck hard. They can crack a crab.

Ces said...

TSUP! TSUP!!!

Those are kisses, not sucks.

Ces said...

Goodnight. Tsup!

Ces said...

Oh that tickles. Stop that! Tsup. G'night. HAHAHA!

i'm savoring those moments, too! it drove me nuts when my girls were toddlers, but now that they're getting older, i know it won't be much longer that they'll want to snuggle up. makes it a little easier to digest that stray foot or elbow in the mouth. LOVE the illustration!

Great work Bella! Wonderful!

Ces said...

I was thinking this would make a cute miniature sculpture. Hmn, perhaps time to take out Marie's clay set gift that she and Reneeplotted to send me two years ago...

Ces said...

Will you mind? Will you let me mold it? I think Emily will squeal. The anus! The anus! HAHAHAHAHA!

Ces said...

I hope not! She will say "Pervert!"

Happy Hanukkah to you and yours as well! We have been kindling our candles every night and I am enjoying this special time. What a fabulous and deliciously sweet illustration. You are the evoker of emotions! I love this piece. It's so timeless and whimsical. You are so off the chain fabulous Bella. Tis the season to share your queen size with the girls. I am sharing mine with Zoe, Ray and two cats. We are always fighting over the covers. Around 3 I just let them all have the bed. It's just to much for me he he he he! Yes I'm a punk. Wishing you and yours the most wonderful Holiday season ever! I love you so much.

Emma and Nora need you, you are their savour!
Your love your children, you give yourself to them, hug them, protect them.

Thank you, I suddenly recalled when my late father passed away.
I went over to accompany my mum and slept with her for three years....when she got cancer....
I heard her crying and she said the pain killer not working....very painful!
All I could do was just to held her hands and encouraged her.
"Don't worry, I am still here, please cry if you want to...I know you are very painful!"

But of all, God is the savour to the world. I am glad he never forsake me.
I know He is there for you too Bella, Emma and Nora!
