Illustration Friday - Proverb

This image best depicts:

[ ] Look before you leap.
[ ] Let sleeping dogs lie.
[ ] People named Bella are attracted to things with fangs.

No, I did NOT make this up! There really are saber-toothed deer running around outside my head. These are water deer that reside primarily in China and Korea. Rather than antlers, they have fangs or tusks. Imagine running into this Bambi in the forest! You can read more about them here.

Lastly, just for kicks, I thought I'd share with you what the image looks like without the original pencil drawing. Whenever I color in a drawing, I like to see what all the mess looks like underneath. Kinda neat.

Have a fantastic weekend, everyone!

would hate to run into THAT bambi, for sure!

Whoa there, Bella! Things with fangs, huh?!! Aha! You did mention you liked Hugh Jackman (I believe as Wolverine he had small fangs huh? Or perhaps just those blades on his hands..)..I digress. What a fantastic couple of proverbs all rolled this simply atmospheric and dreamy piece. The ideas that roll in your head are so beautiful! Amazing that these creatures are real! And I'm so glad that your sweet girl has let the dog lie peacefully. Beautiful work, my friend! Thank you SO much for sharing your wisdom...it is always a joy when you visit! xoxoxo

Wow, that's so interesting seeing the 'before' and the after. How amazing the change. It all comes to life. What a strange creature that fangi Bambi is! I wouldn't have believed you if you hadn't put the picture and link on. Great proverbs. My sleeping dog has sleeped all day long having been out until 2.30am last night! Dirty stop out that he is.

Yowza Bella, ces incroyable! N'est pas?

Well I thought Chrsitmas had come, the lanterns are beautiful, the horns on the girls head are coming from a dark place... I might see you there :) :)

They hark back to an older time, does 'mummers' ring a bell?

Thanks for the image without pencil. Oh what a difference deliniation maketh.

My magic word is Lasmahi.

Truly delightful! Suspended animation! What is going to happen?

The lanterns make this image so magical.Thank you for showing the image without the pencil markings. I wonder what you will call that? - A color drape or colored tiles in the background?

I love everything in it: Hydropotes inermis; now try saying that five times in a row. It looks like he ad a bad case of maloclusion. Co

Of course, Dearest Bella, the trees!!!

Very cool, Bella. I LOVE the glow of the lanters. There is almost a sinister feel in this even though good seems to be winning over evil.
(This creature IS going to let the sleeping dog lie, right?) (:
The lanters look like sweet little glowing pumpkins.

The intensity of this antlered and fanged pair, remind me of someone racing to the 100th comment.

I mean 1,000th! One thousandth comment, alright!

studio lolo said...

It took me a few minutes to see the antlers were NOT on the head of the deer!! The lighting was so magical I just got lost in the dreaminess of the illustration!

I'd do more than a double-take if I had run into a Bambi like that :)

Your comment was the first one I read this morning. Thanks for the comparison (and the laugh!) with the Picasso ref.

Nice to see you Bella ;)
