Illustration Friday - Slither

It slithered toward her outstretched hands and
inspected the shimmering droplet.

Apparently, I have monsters coming out the wazoo. This piece actually started out several months ago with a hummingbird, inspired by the many that zip by my window. However, I just was not happy with it. So I obliterated the bird and snuck in a steampunk dragon. Thankfully, I don't think the girl noticed the change.

Happy weekend, everyone!

I love both of them.

this one was just calling for a slithering steampunk dragon! i would love to hang over your shoulder for a day and watch you transform your drawings into graphic magic - although, if you're anything like me, you'd hate having me hang over your shoulder and would shoo me away with your pencil. methinks you're too kind to do that though!

BEAUTIFUL piece!

i had to come back to look again... i love how you drew and shaded the sky and flowers!

Heh, that is a crackup :) You know we have these things in our garden so we leave the window shut--- Heh.

I like the slither version much better because it evokes something odd and unusual.

The flowers are just great! They give you a sense of being ensconced in the garden (whatever 'ensconced" means)

Another beautiful piece of art. I love your characters. They are so delicate.

that is quite the transformation Bella! I'm liking to dragon a whole lot - these monsters may be frightening at first appearance, but I see this little girl doesn't judge the book by it's cover, and generously shares - monster, humming bird, what's the dif?! I love them all :) xox

Oh, Bells! Hummingbirds or steampunk dragons, you will always be the cutest thing ever!!! Oops, didn't I ring just now? Dong, dong, dong!!! (^_____^) oxx

I think it would have worked either way, but I like the steampunk dragon.

This is so much nicer than Kafka's "The Transformation"!

Hummingbird into a friendly dragon with wings of light would delight any little, or old girl. Their wonderful adventures are crowding my brain.

You rally know how to excite one's imagination.

Hugs and blessings you dear, talented thing you.

Love Arija

Hey Bella! I always have to zoom in and just stare at your artwork. It mesmerizes me and brings me to a place that I don't want to leave. This is delightful!

I can't even envision it with a hummingbird. The steampunk dragon is a natural! I bet with the bird, this piece was cute, but with the dragon..... it's enchanting!

sorry bella,
i worried that video might be too much! not to worry though, we knew it wasn't harmful, to us anyway.

it's interesting you said that about americans and travel. i believe that it's important to see where your from (the usa) as much as it is important to see the world. it's all a good, great education!

i think you should paint the paperbag plant!

How fun to see how this developed, Bella! Must admit I like both, but if you are in a sci fi frame of mind, I say go for the adorable steampunk dragon....which vaguely resembles my favorite sea horse around the head!

I am so late, my lovely Bella. This is such a precious illustration. I don't think the lovely little one noticed the change either. The dragon seemed to be very docile and not at all a threat the the serenity of the garden.

Monsters coming out the wazoo is a VERY SERIOUS CONDITION, Bella. You should see a doctor right away. Unless it's someone else's wazoo. In which case, EW. Tell them to take a few steps away.

I love the hummingdragonbird of course. I can imagine him zipping around at high speeds remaining elusive and only barely spotted. She's a lucky little lady!
