We are approaching our final five weeks here in Tokyo, and I find myself mentally cataloging all the things I will miss about this wonderful country. One thing, surely, will be the sight of little Japanese schoolchildren on their way to school or on field trips in their adorable uniforms. The sight of brightly colored hats bobbing up and down in a wobbly line like a parade never fails to hypnotize me with delight.

so cute!
So adorable. I think it's a great thing to catalog the things you'll miss. It's way to easy to get caught up in the business of moving. Continue to look around you.
the outfits are very cute! when i visited japan i often asked if i could take pictures and usually everyone looked at me like i was crazy. i even had a kid say i was weird (in japanese)! hahahaa. very cute though~ your picture definitely captures all the cuteness!!
The colors, gestures and overall mood in this is incredibly beautiful and full of innocent charm :) Like it a lot!
Beautiful and sweet and very Japanese, enjoy your weeks.
I love the feeling of movement and gesture in the figures; the simplicity and style are very charming!
Oh Bella Sinclair!!!, You are incredible! To think that you are doing this for leisure. Tessa is right, everything you do is CELESTIAL! You just get better than your last best work with everything you do. I am so overwhelmed. There is so much joy and happiness bursting from your work. It turns the most sedate, reticent, misanthrope to a joyful adamite. It triggers an approving smile across the face of an agelast and makes one characteristically succinct individual verbose in her acclamation. HIYAAH! Pure joy!
Oh Bella, add me to your devoted fan list.
How lovely, Bella! Really fabulous picture!
Your work is some of my very favorite ever!! I love it!
oh so sweet Bella!!!
this is cute
I Love this so much! I lived in Japan when I was a child and it is a magical place in my memory. I am currently studying Japanese, and would like to go back. Your illustration brings back memories. Enjoy the rest of your stay!
I really love your little characters!! So fun!
Oh Bella, this is so delightful!!
Are you overwhelmed with the upcoming relocation? I've been so bogged down in my own move that I forgot you were leaving a place you also love.
I'll keep you in my thoughts for a smooth transition ;)
It's adorable,love it
Oh how sweet that is and such a great idea on the japanese paper.
I love it.
You are so thoughtful on the uniforms Bella.
I love the kids here.
Their life are full of hope, sunshine, laugther and joy.
It's another brilliant piece.
I am sure you have a lot of sweet memories with Japan....
My car's radiator just broke down when I travelled back home, I need to send it for repair tomorrow.
Hopefully when it's ready, I can post it to you by tomorrow Friday, if not, it has to be on Saturday.
Thanks and take care:)
How sweet!I have a Japanese aunt.I havent seen her in years. She was always such a lovely lady, very sweet and gentle talking.Thats when we were all young shes in her 80s now.Have fun with your weeks ahead!
Oh Bella! This is just so sweet! I love all of the little characters. Each has such a cool look to them, even though they are dressed in uniforms! Nice job!
Beyond adorable, I love their little round faces and costumes!
I love it Bella!
Are you moving to Arizona? Let me know because I get out there often!
What a fun illustration for that topic! I just love your art!! And your blog! That's why you've got an award waiting for you on my blog! :) Silke
I LOVE this Bella! You creative talented woman you! What adventures do you have after Japan??
bella, this gives new meaning to a 'rope line'.
14 girls and 2 boys...
you are a first class illustrator, ms. taco bella, abetted by your obvious love and devotion for children and other living things.
i can hear myself smile when i visit your blog and you've done something new. yay!
So sweet!
cute and lovely!
I especially love the colors in this.
Good luck with the transition. Soak up all the good stuff!
How beautiful and sweet. I love that picture. I love the outfits, they are so cute.
What lovely memories.
Beautiful Bella and the writing in the background. The little kids holding rope.
Beautiful.
I bet you are going to miss it. Well just enjoy all of the time you have left there.
The moleskin Ces made you is amazing and shows her deep love for you Bella.
I love it.
Love Renee xoxo
Hi Bella,
That is so sweet and I love the little uniforms and sweet children.
Enjoy your time left.
Have a great weekend
Hugs
Carolyn
these sweet little creatures - i had to look at them each four or five times. ALL darling, and ALL different: shy, friendly, naughty, happy, sad, lonely, independent, chatty - a nice reminder that human nature varies just as much there as it does everywhere. what a beautiful illustration to remember your time in japan - good luck preparing for your move, and even though you don't have the time to do it, try to squeeze in a few things that you always wanted to do while you were in japan but haven't done yet!
Delightful Bella - I love the little characters on their Japanese caligraphy background. Only 5 weeks to go? And how fast it will go too. I whizzed around all my favourite haunts in Hong Kong before we left last year, madly taking photos and drinking in the atmosphere! Good luck with the preparations for the move.
Caroline x
Lovely!!! they are so beautiful and it's a great fun to watch this parade!!
Bella, this is brilliant!!! Hmmm... Are you sure you're Bella Sinclair? Or is this Emma Sinclair posting one of her school art project? The craftmanship is definitely Bella but I don't know about how she captured the moment.:)Maybe Emma is art directing.hahaha
Reminds me of gradeschool field trips and flag ceremonies! I was always leading the line because I was the smallest then.hehe
And Emma, is that your nemesis at the upper right corner?
Thank you, Diana.
Hiya, Lizzy. Thanks. I'm looking!
HanamiGallery, thanks! I know someone who takes pictures of the kids by pretending to take pictures of something else. I think you can get arrested in London for taking pictures of kids, no? And what's the word for weird in Nihongo?
Wow, thank you Justdoodleit.
Thank you, Nicky!
Susan Faye, thank you.
Haha, Ces. It also makes said person use enormous words. Too kind.
Arija, I am honored. :)
Vhrsti, hello and thanks!
Hey, Doodlegirl. That's a big compliment. Thank you!
Diana, thank you.
Edith, thanks!
Darcy, thanks, and good luck with the Japanese lessons! I hope to keep it up, too.
Phyllis, thank you.
Lolo, I hope your move goes well, too. It's always stressful, and I'll be glad when it's over.
Monica! Nice to see you, and thanks!
Thank you, Janine.
Yoon See, oh! So sorry to hear about your car!
Hello, Becky! Your aunt sounds lovely.
Loni, thanks so much!
Thank you, Carmen. Round round faces. :)
Manon! Yes, AZ or bust!
Wow, Silke! Thanks!
Haha, Kaili, no more adventures for a while. Just decompressing in AZ.
KJ, thank you so much. Actually, 7 boys, 9 girls. My boys are all effeminate. HA!
Mary Hall, thank you.
Silver Knight, thank you.
Voz, thanks! I am a sponge.
Cheryl, I should have given them better shoes. :)
Hello, Renee. Ces is just incredible with the biggest heart, right?
Carolyn, I agree. The little uniforms here are so cute!
Oh, aimee! See? There's that sharp, scrutinizing eye of yours. Thank you, I'll try to squeeze as much in as I can.
Caroline, the time will absolutely fly! Ack!
Thank you, Owl Eng. Have a seat and enjoy.
Bjornik, haha. You caught me. This was Emma's. You were the smallest? My Emma is the smallest. All her classmates like to pick her up like a doll. And that boy is not her nemesis. He wears a different uniform. Actually, we now take a different route to school and no longer see him. Good memory!
lovely expression of the children, great work!!. I love very much the back view of the drawing. Regards from Spain.
I know what you mean. On a trip to Kew Gardens outside London, my father and I sat out the rain by ducking into a corner cafe which looked out onto a short row of homes.
As we munched lunch and read our books obtained in the little village, we saw several women walk by and wondered where they were headed as they kept passing in ones & twos for a while.
As the rain fell harder and the cafe canopies flapped in the wind, we saw the women returning...with their young children coming home from school. It was so fun to see them in MUCH more interesting rain gear than I've seen (of course in California, that just isn't GOING to be seen!).
My favorite raincoats were one in bright yellow on a boy, with a duck bill protruding from the hood over his face to protect his face....and a red coat worn by a girl with a little ladybug brim...so cute!
We also had a totally different view from our hotel lobby one morning as middle school aged children crossed the street in school uniforms and book bags. SO unlike my experience of school....really fun to see.
so sweet, they look like an animation.
I spent an incredibly short 2 days in Tokyo and loved it. Lucky you for having lived there!
Sweet, sweet illo.
Beautifully drawn.
oh what a cute piece of work! :)
hope you will enjoy your remaining weeks in japan.
Go explore and go to the places that you have never had a chance to! :)
I have this cute little yellow suit that I could put on and be a part of this wonderful parade. Okay... the suit doesn't fit anymore because of the dang Jelly beans!!! The popcorn favored ones did it to me! I'll just stand to the side and let these fabulously dress little ones put their show on! They are past adorable. These darlings are somewhere in the precious zone or something. Honestly, how the heck do you do that????
I get such a good feeling from you work. It's like I can hear all their little voices speaking in japanese and the giggling and all! They are laughing at the cubby black lady in the corner trying to learn a bit of japanese so that I can ask them where they keep their popcorn favored jellies! he he he ! These are what I call so fondly, word pictures and they are not always easy to do, but you do it with your eyes closed, hands tied behind your back, while caring for hubby and children, cooking, cleaning, working, and blogging!!! AMAZING! When I grow up, and someday I will, I want to soooooooooooooooooo be like you. That's from the heart. You're the best girly! Thanks so much for your encouraging words today. I appreciate you so much, Hugs all around for a great weekend!!!!
V.
Oh, how gorgeous! This is my favourite interpretation of the theme. It made me think straight away of the wonderful 'Madeleine' children's books. Very sweet.
OMG!OMG! How Delicious They Are~~~
My heart sways with delight
At this sight!!
Have a Wonderful,Wonderful Day!
Lovely Drawing Bella!! Enjoy the rest of your time in Japan. It has been fun seeing Japan through your eyes, the photographs and drawings. Thank you for that. I think you have quite a collection of memories already cataloged.
Have you given the drawings of all the children to the teacher yet? What was her reaction?
Thank you for visiting my blog and for all your sweet comments.
I am feeling better from my Strep throat. I did get to enjoy a family walk that day. We have nature trails on our property and we took a long walk and enjoyed each other and nature. I took lots of photos, which I will post on my blog soon.
Have a great week!!!
awwwww... keep that camera snapping away if you can :)
Very sweet. What will you miss most? Where are you headed next?
I'm marching in the parade with the kids today. March, march, march......
xoxoxo
Wow, I would love to see those little kiddies as they walked to school. I can only imagine they must look sooo adorable!
This piece is too darn cute, Bella!
how adorable!
変 hahaha. well i mean its definitely creepy to be taking pics of children! hahahaa. i would probably call the police if i saw someone doing it! hahahahaha, but they are so cute and we dont have those outfits around here!!!!
Very cute!
Wow, five weeks left, eh?! Let me tell you, those five weeks are gonna fly by! I'm in panic mode right now because there's still packing to do and other loose ends to tie up and we're leaving in 10 days! Waahhh! Enjoy it while you can! :)
This is very cute, I love the little schoolgirls
i remember i was hypnotised by the kindergarten children lining up during their visit to Asakusa a few years back. They are so cute--tiny white hats and their white and blue uniforms. Your illustration just reminded me of them. :)
oh wow so you are leaving, how fast the time has gone...is everything sorted on the other side? where to? let me know please by e mail if you have a moment. hugs from london.
btw do you swap atc cards?
Very nice work Bella!! Wonderful!
Thank you, Monica. The background paper was some giftwrapping I received.
RockerJewlz, oh! What an enchanting sight. Children's gear is so adorable, and so much more adorable in other countries than in the states!
Lil Kim! Two days only? Too short, too short!
Mark, thank you so much.
Shugar, thanks. Heheh, you mean like Kyoto? :)
Oh, Miss V, you are too hilarious!!! I know if I spent an afternoon with you, I'd cramp my sides from laughing and you will have to call 911 for me. Never ever EVER grow up, you hear?
Alisa, thank you! The Japanese like French things, so I'm not surprised some of the uniforms look Madeleine-ish.
Deepa, hello! Yes, I just want to gobble all the kids up, they are so cute.
Carol, thank you. Actually, I have not given the book to the teacher yet. I'm waiting until the end of school in mid-June.
Laughingwolf, click click click!
Nina, I'll miss Japanese pastries -- YUMMY!!! It's off to AZ next. Yipeekayay.
Renee, hup two three four! Kick those knees high, woman!
Brian, thank you. Wouldn't it be great to scoop them up and put them in your pocket? Ok, that would be child abduction, I guess...
May! Hello! I've missed you!
Hanami, haha! American school uniforms are so boring, right? Blazers. snore
Esque! 10 days! Aaaaaaaaahhhhk! Good luck to you!
Miss Carole, thank!
Valerie, the kids are just as memorable as Asakusa!
Hiya, Soulbrush! Everything sorted on the other side in AZ. I think. Or at least I hope. I have never made ATCs.....
Juan, thank you very much!
I know Bella and we are lucky.
More lucky than we know and so are the men in our country. So are we lucky...
We have to let our voices be heard so that women mean something in a country where we are considered free and equal at least in our own minds and so that we can have enough power to help our sisters in other countries. In countries where there are no rights and even those no rights are becoming minus-no rights.
Love you Bella xoxoxo
Bella did you see what Ces has done on her blog. You will love it. It is a picture of the three of us.
Three very lucky women indeed.
xoxox
Bella! Come! Come my love, you are always welcome! I'll be in the middle!
You are lucky you found a dollar! And a tube of paint, must be cobalt blue. I slept with a tube of cobalt blue pigment before! No I do not have any latex suit with polka dot. How about I just draw polka dots directly on your epidermis?
Totally every man's dream.
I won't even let my man in on the dream. He was such a dickhead last week. He doesn't deserve to get excited by me telling it to him. har har..
xoxoxo
WHUT?!! WHAUUATT! WHATT kind of tube did you find? Toothpaste? Don't you dare say it. Don't you dare! I will not talk to you for ... one day.
Oh I will tell my man just to torture him!
Ooooh...ooooh. I hope you are not joking? I think I am going to have a seizure. Aaargh!
Oh dang! As a pink pig!? Never mind! Geesh!
I just read your comment at renee's about women and I am shaking with reactive disgust. You are absolutely right. It's still a long road for us!
...And there it is, the sharp turn in the comments, folks.
Oh my goodness I am the 69th comment.
Did you watch SNL tonight. Will Farrell was Alex Trebeck and one category was 'these men' and Sean Connery picks 'the semen'. I thought of you.
Love Renee xoxo
Oh my goodness, I am the 70th comment and this is my 9th comment. Tokotuko!
The sharp turn is in adherence to your IF theme where the children walked this way and then turned here and changed uniforms...
That's about....oh, 8%. And the children like to change outfits just as much as you do. :)
Simply charming! By the way, I mailed your package on Friday. They said 7-10 days. Hope it arrives safe and sound! Oh no, something else for you to pack!!!
Thank you so much for the lovely comments, my sweet, for stopping by. I'm glad you like my banner. I find that a serious compliment coming from such a talented illustrator such as yourself.
I hope that you are having a wonderful weekend and that you enjoy a fantastic week ahead!
Oh and I forgot to add that Sean Connery says to Trebek. 'The semen I gave to your mother last night.'
Har har har xoxoxo
Eeeew to Renee. If you take that out of context it's gross! It's a good thing you are already asleep. Hahahah!
bella, i can't tell the difference between girls and boys?! now i can easily by the shorts, but bella, this obvious oversight of mine made me laugh outloud....
here's wishing you a wonderful remaining month before the next chapter unfolds.
xoxo
That is so very cute!!! I love your take on things! I know I've said that before, but I do! :)
How lovely they look. Are you back to the USA?
Fantastic Illustration!
I like this cute draw ;)
greetings from Peru!
Caren, thank you, thank you!
Hello again, Cheryl. I do love your new banner, but I have miles to go yet as an illustrator. Thank you, though.
Renee, I think I will start reading the news headlines through Sean Connery's eyes. Should be more entertaining.
Ces, ewwwwwwww is right. :)
KJ, I guess it's true. Clothes make the man...er, the boy.
Thank you, TattingChic! That's ok, say it again. :)
Hello, BT. Yes, to the southwest state of Arizona.
Hello, Tonito from Peru! Thank you.
Beautiful piece- love the way you handled the background. Outstanding characters and colors as always.
HEE HEE HEE!!! You are so funny!! What say you about the two of us getting matching outfits??? hee hee hee!!! Your husband and his friend with the matching shoes and watches are hilarious!!! I'm still laughing. OMG! I won't tell you about the time my friend and I brought thongs. Let's just say it was wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong WRONG!!!! hee hee hee!! That was the very last time we brought anything that was same. Just because they make it in your size doesn't mean this chick should wear them. Have a wonderful day!!
Awesome Bella!
oh,they are so soo cute!I can really see whay you´ll miss, later one, this sweet parade.
Have all the best wishes for this last weeks in Tokyo and may they be filled with beautifull-lifelong memories!
It's great that you are taking it all in and making a mental note of all the things you will miss. I look forward to reading about your transition.
Enjoy the rest of your weeks! :)
oh! I just love the little funny details! so cute. :D
Very cool, I like this style.
Eric, thank you, my friend.
Oooooh, Miss V! Hahahahaha! I agree, thongs are just wrong, wrong, wrong! Heeeeeeeeeeee
No, Peter, YOU'RE awesome!
Raluca, thank you. Doodling these scenes will help me remember.
Hi, Edrian. Oh, the transition is the worst time, isn't it?
Nancy, domo arigato!
Tomas, thank you so much.
I love the little girl in front of the line all independent.
Hello darling friend. Is it 4 more weeks till the sun shines brighter in North America.
xoxo
I love what Renne said above! Yes, the sunrise will be much more beautiful and I will be looking westward!
Actually I am soooooooo excited!!! Aaaargh!
Hello, Renee & Ces. D-day is June 22. The sun cannot possible shine any brighter in North America with you two already in it. As it is, I will have to purchase sunscreen with an SPF of 150 and solar eclipse glasses.
Bella you are so funny. Asbestos suit it is.
June 22nd the gold is being put back in the sun.
June 22nd holy crow that is right around the corner.
Love Renee xoxo
See! You just prove my point. I am all burn but no rise. It should be sunrise and not sunburn!
June 22nd, I will be closer to Renee than you!
WAIT! Someone has a checklist - The checklist! The checklist! What happened to the checklist! Is this one of the boxes to check off?
Renee, June is special indeed.
Ces, ohhh, girlfriend, you give me a rise alright. :) And yes, this is definitely part of my everyday checklist.
check
check
check!
Heheheh! You are much too much! Did you get any free hugs at the sture? Check!
North America will bedefinitely brighter and smarter upon your return!
100!
Ohhh that's so sweet! I would love to go on a trip to Japan! It's on my have to do list! Lovely drawing!!
Francisco Martins

www.subversivetales.com
a lovely drawing, again. I'd very much like you to list and post the things you'll miss. When it comes to a different culture, city or country, I'm so curious... ;)
Oh the Viking! I am the lucky one. he is one gentle and soft soul early in the morning and that sexy hairy chest oooohhh...it turns me to an Amazon! YOWZA!!! Of course this only happens when I love him, but when he is a dickhead after playing with the boys, please pardon my expression, forget it!
Hello, Francisco. I hope you make it out here one day. Such a lovely culture.
Esti, ha! One of the things I'll miss most is my hi-tech toilet, but I'm not sure I want to post about it. :)
Ces, sigh. Waking up next to the person you are in love with has got to be one of the best feelings on earth.
Thank you Bella. I love you for that. For all of that.
I know I need to eat bettr, at least drink some water, and move. Not for appearance wise, as I don't care about that, but for joint wise, it is hard when you aren't moving enough.
Fun for fun sake, no not really. I have fun but I know there is a lot more fun in me to be had.
Dance, yes, I do love to dance.
Now the best think of all. The very best. I sent Ces some pictures of Josephine and I asked her to email you right away with them.
Start swooning baby.
Love Renee xoxox
I know, seriously. She totally does look like one of those American Girl dolls that are so fucking expensive you would have to sell your house for one.
And I have no doubt you are a puddle of water right now.
Josephine will be 2 on June 1st. Followed by her look alike twin Ces on June 2nd.
Does she remind you of when the girls were little?
Love Renee xoxo
You mean when I wake up and I see myself? HAHAHAHA! :)
Strut! Pout! Cut it out!
Bella you are too funny. Pop out another. Well at least you can draw another.
They so make you see pleasure. Like when she is looking at herself with such admiration and happiness. It reminds me to look at myself that way too. And I do.
I know though, isn't she a doll.
Love Renee xoxo
Bella I am laughing my head off you are so funny.
'trapped inside her own little hell with candy coating.' I love that line.
By the way you may need to get to Ces if you can, she is trying to portray herself as virginal and innocent. Total bullshit.
She needs your voice of reason.
'her own little hell with candy coating. har har har
What a fishwife that Renee is, coming here talking about me!
Girl!!! You just made me crack up with your hoochie mama comment! HAHAHAHAHA!
Yo mama!
Why, are you a hoochie mama?
You are better than Prozac or Zoloft!
You like that rise don't you?
You and Renee are cracking me up!
Bella go see that Julian Smith on Britains got talent he is playing the sax. go to youtube.
Every time I watch it I tear up it will go right to your soul.
Love Renee xoxo
That's it I just lost it. I did not even had a chance to say it, I just heard you say it and I am done for.
I am more than willing to hold his sax. I will even blow his sax.
Even more sexy is he has a wedding ring on.
xoxoxo
That damn Ces notice how she is calling me a fishwife. I told her my Mom's family is from Aberdeen and the men worked on the north sea and the women were fishwifes and so now she is calling me a fishwife and making fun of my heritage.
What a truly horrible person she is.
I do think she would give someone rat poison.
We must keep her away from my new love Julian. I will have to tell her not to look at him and his sax.
xoxo
Why dies Renee keep on misspelling sex?
Bella I just got kicked out of her site again. Please I am leaving you the quest to make sure she does not get near Julian.
xoxoxo
I am not making fun of your heritage you, you, you Renee YOU!
HAHAHAHA!
And Bella I am a woman that does not blow sax. So that tells you how much I like him.
Even if he needs it kept warm I will do that for him because I am kind of a saint and I just roll like that. xoxoxo
Somehow, during these blog marathon, the word "saint" and Renee do not go well together.
Oh yes Bella you are so right. I am really good that way.
If he asks me to polish his sax. I shall tell him that the best way for me to do that would be to put it near my inner thighs as the fact that I am 217 pounds they will rub together so that anything stuck in between them with get a really great polish and shine.
After it is so well polished if you and Ces want, you will both be able to see your reflections in it. How does tht appeal to you?
Yummy, I know.
Just another of my selfless acts for the good of mankind.
Love Renee xoox
Oh Bella you are so disgusting I am laughing my head off.
Goodnight God Bless you.
Love Renee xoxo
aaaa!!! Bella!!!! these are so so so very cute!!!
you are the best, have i told you that? no? yes? LOL
i wish you guys a pleasant move.. how long have you been in Japan? a few years? have you daughters been to the U.S.? which country do they consider home?
still, must be hard for them to move... but move is always fun!!!
do you guys already have a place to move to? this is a nice time to buy houses in the states now. i heard the prices went really down. a few of my friends and relatives are considering buying some real estate there you know..
anyways, love and kisses
And I couldn't love you back anymore if I tried.
xoxoxo
I just love your art and your sense of humor just cracks me up!!
Good luck on your move!
Namaste, Sarah
que hermosos, hermosos personajes.
Bella!!! Are you packing?
Those are beyond adorable... sorry it's been a while since I dropped by! love catching up :)
LOL!!! You must have been going WTF??
I love it. I was afraid to say anything to anyone. I didn't want to spoil the surprise.
It was Renee who urged me on, it was synchronus, with the Vampyre thing and all and her Birthday coming. Too good of moment to let slip away.
I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for that one.
Wonderful! There's a wonderful spirited quality to your artwork.
