Odakota

He swam to me all the way from Georgia. I don't know how he did it, but he did. And when I found him, he said his arms were a little tired, but not too tired for an eight-layered hug.

This is my new friend, whom I have decided to name Odakota (which means friend in Sioux). Nancy Dorsner was gracious enough to relinquish him to me after I fell in love with him on her blog. You should check out her creativity-exploding blog, full of challenges and cooking ideas and craft inspirations. She also creates adorable robots and cephalopods, among other amazing art, and if you ask nicely, she may even create one especially for you.

Thank you, Nancy! He is absolutely beautiful!

What a handsome guy! I'd love a eight-layered hug from him! So lovely!

I don't know how you make these drawings. I am amazed. Your new friend is cute, being blue which is my favorite of all colors and because he does not look scary. I love your diver hair, just going everywhere.

Do you like my new avatar? It was done by my favorite illustrator!

Yes, Esque, I'm a sucker for hugs. HA!

Ces! Look at you! Cheers to you, too. :)

i love how you blend your art with others', and your ability to weave it all into a great story! congratulations on your new 'pet' - he's a cutie!

Bella Sinclair said...

Yes, he is a cutie, isn't he. He tells me he's a java junkie, and I know JUST the place to take him.

What a great pair they make, Bella!

Bella Sinclair said...

They are working on a song and dance number, but Odakota is proving to have too many left feet. Not his fault.

i like his honest observant eyes...

I had to come back and look at him again! I love the shrimps, too cute!

Bella Sinclair said...

Hi, KJ. They're wide open, baby, wide open. I'm glad he only has two, though, because anything with more than two eyes skeeves me out. Except potatoes. I like potatoes.

Hello again, Esque! Mmmm, mesmerizing, isn't he? The shrimp were added at the request of the artist's husband. They ARE cute!

bella, you like potatoes? don't they and bread make the absolute perfect meal, maybe with one or two string beans thrown on the plate for color? :)

are there potatoes in japan?

caren said...

The drawings are amazing and I love the comment you made about the song and dance - too cute!!!!!

I have a question - have you lived in Japan your whole life?

Thank you, Pavel and Nancy. Isn't he great?

Thanks again, Dot. I shall love him and cherish him and feed him good food.

KJ, break and potatoes? Whoa, that's a lotta carbs! Although I must admit, potato croquettes are mighty yummy. Yes, they do have potatoes here, though smaller than those in the states. But they do have beautiful, big sweet potatoes. Every once in a while, you can catch a man in a truck driving around the neighborhood. He sings loudly over a microphone, kind of like an ice cream truck. And on the back of his truck is a big oven filled with piping hot roasted sweet potatoes.

Hey there, Caren. We've been here about 1.5 years, but we go back to the states in June. :(

Hiya, Laughingwolf! I thought I recognized you! Nice to see you here!

Thank you, Monica. I like him, too. :)

Hi, Euclid. Welcome. Thank you. I love Ces's work, too. :)

Hi, Sheree. Oh, YES! I have seen that, and it's fabulous, isn't it?!

Oh Bella, another cute drawing.

Love the thought of a little Odakota song and dance number going on and O proving that he has too many left feet. hehe!

I'm looking forward to the day that I can buy your books.

bella, i hope you know i was kidding about the carb heavy potatoes with bread! i imagined one or two thin little green beans aside them on the plate. a friend of mine told me a secret for eating balanced meals every time: just make sure there's 3 different colors on the plate!

:)

Bella Sinclair said...

Oh, Carolyn. He's no Fred Astaire, it's sad really. But boy, can O sing! I'm off to call David Letterman.

Aww, thank you, Kaili. What can I tell ya. We don't have cable. I make my own entertainment.... I'm a terrible bore at parties, though.

No problem, Eric. The next time I have a garage sale, I'll let you know. ;)

KJ: Oh, but I wasn't. Croquettes rock!

What a great illustration by Nancy. I love the octopus with this big eyes and the little shrimp shaped like a heart...too cute!! I have tatted an octopus, actually two of them for a sea scene I have been making. It is an ongoing piece that I keep adding to. I have tatted fish, seahorses, mermaids. If you go to Dec. 20, 2006 on my blog you can see the ongoing project. Have a great day!

When I see that octopus I can't help think of that mentally ill woman they are calling octamom with the 8 kids. Poor kids being born to that. xoxoxo

One of my daughters Nadalene always says 'yeah you may want kids but would they want you.' Don't you think that is true too?

xoxoxo

Bella Sinclair said...

Linda - HAHAHA! Ok, I deserved that. :D Wouldn't that be great, though!

Renee, isn't that just an awful moniker - "Octamom"? Gruesome image. Yes, sad, the woman is clearly ill. Not everyone deserves to raise a child.

Renee said...

I love you comment, thanks. I kinda remember that commercial, so ridiculous.

I had the child years too, where everything was about them, and I'm glad I did. But now, I wish I had remembered us (as in husband and me) a bit more.

Love you. xooxo

Ces said...

Very interesting comment about the children's thoughts. I knew several children who told me they wished my mother was their mother because their mothers were cruel and abusive, yet they defended their mothers when criticized by other children.

See, my word verification is "predig"
