IF - Flawed

She didn't have the heart to tell him.

Inspired by this photo:

I'm feeling a bit flawed this week. Mired in mediocrity. It's times like this when I'm thankful for photos like this one. Yes, it's a little mean spirited, I know. But a little downward comparison can work wonders.

EDIT: Another fresh one, just in. Are you jealous?

OMG! This is one of my pet peeves. Do you know that even educated people make the same mistake and the worst part is they don't realize their mistake? That awful tattoo is permanent though. This is much too cute. Hahaha!

Your funny - HAHAHAHHA!

Ces said...

Oh wait! Maybe the tattoo is referring to a mine because after all, there is a sickle and maybe they are mining? Maybe they meant to say "Your mine or Mine?"

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Bella Sinclair said...

Hahaha, Ces. Perhaps, but I do not want to see where the rest of it is written.

You've given me some much needed laughs this week! Thanks.

Renee said...

har har. Hillarious. Love it. Renee

Your welcome! Nyuk nyuk!

Well you made me smile and laugh. I had an awful Monday! I hope you're Monday was better. Okay I am overdoing this now. Gotta stop.

Oh the word verification is cousni, maybe that is a cousin who is not really a cousin.

Gai said...

I hope the person in the photo only has the one tatoo!! love the illustration very clever and funny

Björnik said...

Hahahaha! The illustration was enough to make me chuckle. You see things beyond what the normals eyes can and I find it very cute and hilarious in this case. I can just imagine a little Bella hiding behind a rock so as not to disturb a sleeping behemoth while doing a sketch and quickly runs for her life giddy and all that to pick some fresh flowers!:)

i am so glad i checked your blog before i retired for the evening - now i can go to bed laughing my head off! sigh... the things people do and write and tattoo before they do a simple grammar check. most of us have done the downward comparison. do not fret.

love and hugs your way - do something good for yourself today to get out of the mediocre soup. you don't belong there. xoxo

Bella, I hope you will get back to normal.
I really love this piece, so beautifully drawn and funny.
:):):)

Bella Sinclair said...

Thank you Renee, Gai, and dear Yoon See. Glad to make you smile.

Bjornik, MY, you have an active imagination. Flowers I will pick, but I never run. I am a sloth.

Aimee, thank you for the hugs. Soup. That's a good way to describe it. Hope your arm is feeling better.

Just find your blog..! Thanks for your comment...
I love your work...and treehouses,too!

I never knew I was a bottom-person until I say your drawing, Bella! lol, that hippo looks sooo round and soft and cuddly. :p
But a little morbid wallowing now and then is just healthy. I think? You're the phycologist, after all! ;)

lil kim said...

That is too funny. Great idea and great illo!

Bella Sinclair said...

Thank you, Xavier. I'm honored by your visit. Welcome to my humble place.

Nancy, hahahaha! So you like it when baby's got back, eh?

Thank you Lil Kim!

oh my goodness i love my tattoos but they are tiny!!! mediocrity is such a nice word, with not an altogether positive feeling to it.

beautiful drawing, the texture of the Rhino is perfect, he is leathery but you have still made the drawing soft and adorable.

oh my Bella, this is hilarious!! applaud! what an inspiration and you execute it very well. great job. ^_^

The rhino is really great! So sweet and fluffy!...

Awwwwww~ My heart is fluttering all over. Your art always have that effect on me! Btw what's up with today? Hungry ghost festival? They were having special programs on ghosts and ghost stories on tv. It was freaky.

Edrian Thomidis said...

Ha! Love it!
By the way, I joined the caravan...make sure you enter for a chance to win..I'm #882

Bella Sinclair said...

Soulbrush, yes, I like that word, too. Say it with me...mediocrity, mediocrity, mediocrity. I'm curious, how many tattoos do you have?

Thank you Amy. It must have been the photo enhancements that make him look leathery to you. On paper, he's as smooth as a baby's bottom. Regrettably.

Thank you, Enigma, Owl Eng, Fadas & C! Fluffy rhinos!

Milkberry, I LOVE your giveaway! I'd never seen Hello Kitty get whacked on the head by chalk before. And as a stalker??? No way! So much fun at your place.

Hi, Edrian! Ooooh, you're a gypsy, too! Well, I will have to pop on by for a look-see. (#882 - boy, the list is looooong.) Thanks!

Bella Sinclair said...

Milkberry, I forgot to add: So there were ghosts around yesterday? I don't have cable here, but I DID hear an inordinate amount of people milling about outside yesterday. Or at least I thought they were people. oooOOOOOooooo

palma tayona said...

bella! this illo hit it "right on the spot". hahahaha, i have been thinking of having a tattoo on my right shoulder. this gives me encouragemnt.

Bella Sinclair said...

For goodness sakes, Palma, make sure they spell it right!

Thanks for coming to my party. I love your sense of humour. First date and all.

I love people who are giving and I think people who have used someone are terrible and total losers. Never the person who gave.

Love Renee

Draffin Bears said...

Beautiful little Rhino, Bella and you have done a great job.

Don't know about the tattoo though?
After all they are permanent.

Hugs
Carolyn

esque said...

Poor Rhino! I'm guilty of misspelling a few things myself every so often, even though I loathe it when others do it! But I am sure I've never misspelled anything on something so permanent as a tattoo! That would be awful! Hopefully, the rhino's tattoo is one of those temporary tattoos that wash off in a few days! lol

studio lolo said...

Yikes! That explains America's crack problem :D

Sweet Rhino. Birdy should overlook the spelling and be wowed by his heart.

I think all of these comments had to take you out of that mediocre state :)

Indigene said...

Oh, I love this illustration! I hear ya, I have a case of the winter blahs! That tattoo is monstrous!

lovely sketches on the Hippo!
Very creative!

Chris Leavens said...

But the "mine" belongs to SOMEONE, doesn't it? Otherwise, all the coal would be free.

In all seriousness, great illustration. I really like the way you approach shading -- always such great subtlety.

Bella Sinclair said...

Searlait, merci beaucoup!

Renee, thank YOU for the lovely tea party. Something tells me you are a BIG giver. :)

Hi again, Carolyn! Thank you. I know, I can't even keep a hairstyle, let alone a permanent tattoo.

Hi, Esque! If it's a temporary tattoo, does that mean his love is also temporary? Hmmmmmm.

Lolo, hahaha! Everyone has been so sweet, that yes, I think I am crawling out of my muck.

Hello, Indigene! Winter blues and monstrous tatoos, oh my. :)

Thank you, May! I hope you're keeping warm up there in the Great White North.

Thanks, Chris. And thanks for stopping by. You're right, he could be talking about a coal mine. But then he'd be guilty of wearing a really odd and senseless tattoo. Either way he's up a creek, wouldn't you say? ;)

That's quite a canvas to paint on! I want to go through life without any permanent marks except for the ones I can't avoid.
Bella, it's great to have you as a blog/art/friend! Warm wishes, John

Haha, this is so adorable. And from someone who notices these types of misspellings, I definitely appreciate it!

Good job!

Love the illustration! I have to admit it took me a second... think I need more coffee. Brilliant.

Shani said...

Oh my goodness! This is just sooooooooooooooo good!!! And so funny!

The rhino looks like a giant toe.

milly (elephants&redwoods) said...

THAT IS SO FUNNY!!!!! What does it mean when bloggers do "IF - XXX"

I dont understand the IF part?

aimee said...

had to come back to look at this again. a fresh round of laughter!

Bella Sinclair said...

Monica, Messyfish (love that name), Nicky, Denise, Flower Girl, Kathy, Shani, I humbly thank you. :) You make my day.

Ditto to you, John.

Eric, if it's any consolation, your scarecrow was so adorable that I had trouble seeing his flaw at first, too. Yes, downing a coffee as I type.

Thanks, Milly! Sorry for the confusion. The IF stands for Illustration Friday (illustrationfriday.com). Once a week (guess when), they provide a new word and invite people to create something based on that word. You should join in!

Ces, does your toe look like that? Time for a pedicure, methinks. ;)

Hey, aimee! I'm headed to your place next.

Bella Sinclair said...

Ces: @#%**&^!!&^$@!! I went looking for the toe, and it morphed into something ELSE, another part of anatomy that left me mortified. And now I cannot get the image out of my head! I think your posts subconsciously influenced me this week. :DDDDDD

Rhino FAIL.

aimee said...

me likes the rhino even more now!

aimee said...

wait, i just read your comment. what on earth do YOU see? i think it's a hilarious toe-rhino.

aimee said...

or do i not want to know that answer to that?

aimee said...

i'm having so much fun plugging up your comment section that i think i'll leave another.

Bella Sinclair said...

Aimee, thanks for laughing with me. I got my cardio in for the day, that's for sure. ;D

Roberta said...

Oh my.... this post is too funny!

Poor rhino... I guess it's the thought that counts but keep that rhino bottom away from mirrors!

Caroline said...

What a brilliant take on flawed! I love it! There's certainly a lot of bad spelling about, and grammar for that matter! My pet peeve is the way people stick apostrophes anywhere these days! BTW , thanks so much for visiting my blog and leaving such nice comments!

Bella Sinclair said...

Hi, Roberta! No mirrors on the African plains, thank goodness. But they do, apparently, have tattoo artists. Go figure.

Hi, Caroline! Thank's for your sweet comment's!

Ces said...

OH MY GOOD! WHAT is wrong with these peepol? Is that a breast? No I am not jealous. I don't think I will ever be. Maybe it was a big breast before , now it is a stupid big breast.

On second thought maybe it is pronounced Halous which means "loose" in my island language. So she probably is asking "are you loose?? maybe her name is Luz? (Sorry Luz, in case someone with the name of Luz stops by for a visit.

Oh the word verification is inche. See, even Blogger can't spell.

By the way it looks like the skin is inflamed

Ces said...

Hey! what do you mean I need a pedicure? That is not my toe, it looks like a swollen toe. the rhino. I mean.

Bella Sinclair said...

Hahahaha, it means loose??? Perfect! No, I don't think it's a stoopid big breast. I think, judging from the little bit of boxer-patterned elastic in the corner, that it is a stoopid big butt.

Renee said...

Absolutely not jealous.

Ha ha about the mask. xoxo

Love Renee

Ces said...

Eek! If that is a stoopid big butt, it is so disgusting! Are these specimen members of the homo sapien species?

Holly said...

I am one of those really annoying people who's always correcting other peoples spelling and grammar (I so try to bight my lip!).

I think the first tattoo is a warning to people like me that if we carry on being the spelling/grammar police we will be consigned to a special level of hell where we have an inaccurat tattoo emblazoned on our flesh forever with no hope of removing it O.O!!!!

Bella Sinclair said...

Aaah, yes, that's the question, Ces. :)

Hiya, Holly! Goodness, being permanently marked with a misspelling WOULD be hell for me, too. Ok, lesson learned. I will shut up.

Beatrice said...

That's hilarious! Poor rhino meant well.

aimee said...

what about "quotations" around words that don't "need" them? how do "you" feel about "that"?

platitudinal said...

That’s a superb illustration on the subject “flawed”, Bella.

Re: the real pictures inspiration --> Oh, my! It is rather unkind, but one cannot help but wonder whether the tattoo is self exegetic.

sketched out said...

Being in the publishing biz for years, I know how easy it is to have a typo slip through... but a tatoo, oye!

You're so funny... or should I say, your so funny? I really got a chuckle out of this post today. Your rhino is adorable, regardless of the careless mistake on his butt, hee hee.

Bella Sinclair said...

Hi, Beatrice! Yes, poor Rhino, indeed. Hmmmm, now who could have put that awful tattoo on his bum? Could that have been....ME? Just goes to show ya, never pass out in front of me.

Heheh, "Aimee". Nah, "misplaced" quotations do "not" bother me "too" much. "Why", do they "bother" you? :)

Thanks, Luci! *sigh* Wouldn't it be great if all potential suitors were marked this way? It would save a lot of time, don't you think?

Hiya, Sketched Out! Thanks. Oh my, I don't think I could ever be a proofreader. I would go ballistic!

Bella Sinclair said...

Hi, Tiddly Inks! Thanks for stopping by. Glad I could make you smile. :)

Wow, Bella , looks as if you struck a nerve.

My most unfavorites:

Loose for lose

Loathe for loath (AKA let's be incorrectly pretentious)

The very worst, using (ussing?) it's as the possessive of it. Yesterday I cracked and commented on a blog that was a critique/introduction to a body of poetry.

Some bloggers who are blogging buds are consistent in their misuse, and you can't say anything cause... they are your buds.

Maybe we need an anonymous blog with the rules?
