IF - Contained

The contagious yawn, once unleashed, cannot be contained.

Did you know, there's research to suggest that the more empathetic you are, the more likely you are to catch someone's yawn? And did you know, even dogs can catch your yawn? If you're part of their social pack, it just may happen. Scientists are gaining more insight into why we yawn in the first place. I've read articles on how the brain heats up more during times of transition or fatigue, and yawning cools the brain. This might explain why some people yawn more just before experiencing a migraine or seizure -- these are times of transition. Cool stuff.

So, did you yawn while reading this?

i exploded laughing when i got to your last sentence because i didn't realize i was yawning until you asked the question. i wonder why this happens? so fascinating. this is a darling illustration, bella! such cute little girls, quilt and lanterns!

i had to type 'munketig' this time. a hashed-up version of marketing?

I could never yawn reading one of your amazing posts! But I am empathetic enough to yawn looking at those beautiful girls and dog! I love the line work and black and white space on this piece. I also love the print on the bed cover and the three lanterns.
I just love your pencil work. I really do! So when are you putting your stuff on etsy?

Lovely image, I have noticed cats will yawn in greeting.

I knew yawns were contagious, but I didn't know it had anything to do with empathy! My kitty cat used to yawn with me all the time!

Laughter and smiles are contagious too...is the yawn related? All done with the mouth muscles...what does it all mean???

Like your illo...the pattern in the bedspread and the lanterns above the bed are nice touches.

Cheers!

No I did not yawn but I squealed with delight when I saw your illustration. Fantastic details and the two darling ones yawning are so adorable. I love the bedspread design and the cute little dog sleeping with them. This is so life affirming Bella!

I yawn a lot when I am tired and I just yawned from thinking about yawning. The word yawn looks and sound weird if you keep on saying it. It's origin is Middle English - yanen, alteration of yonen, yenen, from Old English geonian.

Happy illustration:)

No, I didn't yawn while reading your post, but when I got to the replies and seeing the word "yawn" in every other line...lol.
BTW, I have to apologize on not commenting on your entry for Resolve - there was a blackout while I was reading it and then I forgot I hadn't posted anything...sorry. :p But the drawings were just too funny! So many cute little details, seriously, I agree with the comments - you were made for illustrations! :)

Yes I did. I always do. I don't know why. This is a mystery I'm still tying to find out. Why do we do this. Have you figured it out? Oh there I go again. All you have to do is say the word and I do it! The illustration is just beautiful. I love your line work. It's always so yummy and delicious with character. AWESOME GIRL!!!!

Pleasing style and terrific rendering.

Thanks for sharing your life experiences and feelings on your blog.

Thanks for your compliments -- Illustration Friday Topic.

Asian looking illustration -- never looked at the painting that way. Perhaps someday, I will have to practice that thought however using koi fish. My husband and I spent the spring of 2008 creating a pond and I added koi fish and tadpoles to the pond. I cannot wait to spring 2009. We also found baby fry swing in the late summer. What is more, we do have a few shubunkins in there too (my favorite named Blue -- he is so small). Therefore, I cannot wait to see what we have created. I hope they survive the winter.

By the way, love the “Portrait of Mom” -- A long day gardening (flowers are illustrated)? I read your “About Me” to my husband and he laughed – message sounds a bit like me (likeness in my career, interest, and home life).

*yawns* Feel better already! Lovely illustration as always! What kind of pen do you use, because your line work is indeed superior as is your humour! I use a Rapidosketch and have to hold it funny to make it work. May be it's because I'm a leftie.

Your post was far too fascinating for me to yawn! I have TOTALLY noticed that with one of my doggies, whenever he is sitting next to me and I yawn, he ALWAYS does too...so funny! OR if I feel like my eyes are too dry it makes me yawn and then they feel a little better :)

Anyway I just adore this piece, it is wonderful in every way!

I had to come over and tell you about how my daughter got my husband with and ice ball. He always gets her with these snow balls right in her face. I told him that, She's a girl for pete sakes be a little more gentle with her. Well this one day she got him real good with a dirty, grainy, ice ball in the back of his head. It slid down his neck and he has learned his lesson. he he he!!! Yay for the girls!!! Have a good one Girly!!!!

What a sweet illustration. I love the setting you achieve here. And my husband thinks it is hilarious that he can make me yawn at any time just by faking a yawn!

BELLA!!!!! I'm freezing my butt off over here!! It's just crazy cool outside. I didn't even want to take the girl to school this morning it was so cold. This is the kind of cold where you see people walking along and you stop you car and pick them up kind of cold. Anyway, thanks so much for your warm wishes. I need them right about now. I'm going to get in the bed with the cat and the girl and watch some TV. Oh and of course have something warm to drink! He he he.
