IF - Clique

In high school, I didn't belong to any of the cool cliques. I always had my nose buried in a book and was voted Most Studious as a result. And now as a grown-up, when I wait outside the school to pick up my daughters, I see that the other parents have formed little cliques of their own. I don't really feel comfortable in any of these cliques. I usually hang back by myself or sometimes glom onto another solitary mom. Sometimes I look at the cliques with envy. But then I remember that I'm a part of a wonderful international clique of artists and illustrators who are warm and welcoming. And that's the best clique of all.

I was inspired by Emily and Ces to put more detail into my work. Good golly, I don't have the patience or skill to put in as much amazing detail as they do, but I tried.

I think it turned out great! I wasn't a part of any particular clique either, just kinda floated from one to another.

i love the illustration but also love the take on clique. that we are all part of the IF art clique, all across the world, great work.

What a cute way to illustrate the joy of friendship in the international bloggerlandia! Besides, cliques have such unhealthy group dynamics, they really don't do anyone any good, anyway!

wonderful wonderful wonderful, bella! you can glom with me any ol time! i'm exactly the same way...still feel out there, on the fringe. sometimes those mommies are like, wearing the same hairdo, or um, shoes. i just don't get that! i am now counting all the eyes on these little little people. wish me luck! :))

Bella this is wonderful. Like Froggie, i see the eyes right away. Thanks for the special mention. You are so sweet.

Oh this is great! I like that everyone looks happy... how cheery! :)
And oh, what's the white blob up there near the north pole? Abdominal snowman? :) hehe...
i totally understand what you mean about the clique thing too! :) Never really was part of one.. hehhe.

will you sell prints of this one? i want this for my daughters' bedroom wall! it's fantastic!

Bella Sinclair said...

Heeheee, Shugar, the white blob up north started life as a polar bear, but you know how life never turns out how you like it. I like abominable snowman better, so YES, that's what that is! Thanks!

Thanks for the heartwarming comments, my blogging buddies.

This is great! I really like the style of the characters and I especially like all of the animals intermingling with the people. Polar bear, whale, and giraffe are my favorites. Awesome work as always, Bella!

Oh thank goodness other parents notice how ridiculous "parent cliques" are! What sort of signal are we sending our children when we only hang with the "cool" moms and dads.

Nice post! Love the colors and the whale.

I'll be in your clique anyday!

Wonderful work!

This is great Bella!
I love what you say, the concept of your illo and how you rendered it, it's full of wonderful details and winks.
One of the worst things about cliques is that they loose the opportunity to know wonderful people outside their own circle, life can be so enriched by interchange, and this "open clique" is the perfect example of this.

Bella, i love what you wrote. i hate cliques too and the part about we're in a great international cliques is so true. lovely illo too! ^_^

This is sooo cute!! I feel that way a bit too, I don't really fit in with the other ladies in my neighborhood...so it just means I have to drive farther to hang out with my real friends :)

But I love how you put that, we have this fun IF clique, and everyone here is way cooler than most cliques!

PS that was too funny about the two vampire posts, ha ha ha! I went right over and checked it out!

Mônica said...

Oh, this is wonderful, Bella! That's one clique i'm proud to be part of: and that's because it's so welcoming and inspirational, so diverse and fun! :-)

amen to all that have been said about your illustration but hey, better late than never, i really like your illustration-and it has a universal feeling!

This is awesome!!!! Hey, I can see my house from here!

I am the same way. In school, at first I just didn't fit in, then I didn't want to. It's so much more meaningful to have a few like-minded, truly connected pals, you can be yourself with than have to mold yourself to "fit in."

Kate said...

I wish Ihad seen this earlier. It's so wonderful!!!

Ces said...

Oh Bella, rereading these old entries now make so much sense and give them new meaning. I was so harried. I should have paid more attention. I would have learned to love you so much earlier. I envy TattingChic. I wish I discovered you!

Ces said...

Hah! Look at you now. You are the most popular! And not just some high school clique, were talking about creative brainiacs.

You know light travels faster than sound which is why some people are really attractive when you see them first and then they fail when they open their mouths!
